HarperCollins Publishers is one of the Big Five English-language trade publishing houses, formed in 1989 by the merger of Harper and Row (founded 1817 by James and John Harper in New York) and William Collins, Sons (founded 1819 in Glasgow). It is a subsidiary of News Corp and publishes more than ten thousand new books annually across more than one hundred twenty imprints in seventeen countries.

Its writing-craft and reference catalogue includes the long-running Self-Editing for Fiction Writers by Renni Browne and Dave King and many other working writing references. Major imprints include William Morrow, Avon, Harper Voyager, HarperOne, Harper Wave, Ecco, and HarperBusiness.
