What the Dead Leave

Three books about death and grief, and the machinery behind both

Somebody is still standing there after the ending

A functionary who has assessed the dead since before there was a word for death, and who has started watching where they actually go. A man who corrects errors in the beliefs that keep ghosts standing in rooms. A cat who watched a woman die and then went two weeks later.

None of these is a horror novel. They are books about what remains in a place after the person is gone, and about the people who keep showing up to deal with it.

One of them is true.
