Final Wish Fulfilled: Completing a Book on Digital Marketing for a Friend

Project at a Glance

  • Client: Local business owner (anonymous by request)
  • Project: Update and complete final chapters of a book on internet marketing and data brokers
  • Duration: ~1 month
  • Result: Final manuscript completed and delivered before the subject passed away
  • Use Case: Legacy preservation and final tribute
  • Location: US

The Client

My client was a Florida-based business professional who came to me not for himself, but for a friend. That friend, terminally ill, had written a book about how internet marketing works “under the covers” nearly a decade earlier. As he approached the end of his life, his final wish was to see that book updated and finished, specifically the two chapters on data brokers which had become outdated.

The Journey

The original manuscript was solid but clearly reflected a different era of the web. My job was to retain the author’s voice and core message while modernizing the content. Working through the client, who served as the liaison, I gathered updated insights on the data broker industry, its evolution, new players, and the way it affects privacy and digital marketing today.

This project was emotionally intense. It wasn’t about business or branding; it was about honoring a man’s dying request.

The Finished Book

The completed chapters maintained the integrity of the original work while integrating the latest trends and data. The writing blended technical analysis with accessible language, designed to help readers understand how their data is bought, sold, and exploited online.

Impact

  • The manuscript was finalized and delivered in time for the author to see it
  • The client was deeply moved to be part of honoring his friend’s wish
  • The final work now is a tribute to the author's passion and voice

Afterward

The updated manuscript now stands as a final tribute, a meaningful conclusion to the life’s work of a man who wanted to educate others about how the internet really works. For the client, it was an honor to help a friend complete his mission.

Impact Summary

A heartfelt project that honored a dying wish and delivered a finished book before it was too late.
