Actor: Robert Duvall

Robert Duvall has been nominated seven times and won Best Actor for Tender Mercies, a small film about a country singer that he insisted on singing himself.

He is best known for supporting work: Tom Hagen across the Godfather films, and Colonel Kilgore in Apocalypse Now, whose line about napalm in the morning is quoted by people who have never seen the film. Kilgore is on screen for a few minutes.

Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird was his first credited role and he has almost no dialogue in it.

He directed The Apostle, which he also wrote and financed himself, playing a preacher whose faith is genuine and whose conduct is not, and it is the fullest thing he has done.
