William Goldman won Best Original Screenplay for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Best Adapted Screenplay for All the President’s Men, and wrote The Princess Bride as both novel and script.
His book Adventures in the Screen Trade is the standard insider account of Hollywood and contains the line nobody knows anything, meaning that no one in the industry can predict what will work. It has been quoted continuously since 1983.
He also wrote Marathon Man and Misery, and did extensive uncredited rewriting on films including A Few Good Men and Good Will Hunting.
