Nigel Terry played Arthur in Excalibur, ageing from a boy to a dying king across a single film, and he was largely unknown when cast.
He worked repeatedly with Derek Jarman, in Caravaggio, The Last of England and Edward II, and had a substantial Royal Shakespeare Company career. The Lion in Winter gave him his first film role as Prince John.
