Melvyn Douglas won Best Supporting Actor twice, for Hud and Being There, and had earlier been a leading man opposite Garbo in Ninotchka. He served in the war, was blacklisted-adjacent through his wife’s political career, and won a Tony as well, completing the set of major American acting awards.
