Julianne Moore won Best Actress for Still Alice, playing a linguistics professor with early-onset Alzheimer’s, and had been nominated four times previously.
She worked repeatedly with Paul Thomas Anderson and Todd Haynes, and Far from Heaven is the best of that collaboration, a 1950s melodrama played entirely straight. Boogie Nights and Safe are the ones to seek out. She has published a series of children’s books.
