David Prowse was a competitive bodybuilder and weightlifter who played Darth Vader physically across the original trilogy, delivering all the dialogue on set.
He was not told his voice would be replaced by James Earl Jones and learned about it at the premiere, which he discussed with lasting irritation.
He was also the Green Cross Code Man in British road safety campaigns for children, for which he received an MBE, and was banned from official Star Wars events for years after leaking plot details.
