David Naughton played the lead in An American Werewolf in London, and the transformation sequence required him to lie in a pit while prosthetic limbs were extended beneath him, shot in bright light which was the film’s key innovation. He had been the face of a Dr Pepper advertising campaign, which he has said cost him the role’s credibility with some executives.
