Actor: Chris Pine

Chris Pine took over James T Kirk for the Star Trek reboot, which required playing an established character without impersonating William Shatner, and he found a version that works on its own terms.

He has led Star Trek, Jack Ryan and the DC Wonder Woman films, which is three franchises at once, and the individual work between them is more interesting than that suggests.

Hell or High Water is the best performance, playing a Texan brother whose plan is more thought through than his partner’s, and Dungeons and Dragons showed genuine comic timing.

He directed Poolman, which was very poorly received, and appears entirely unbothered by it.
