Carrie Fisher played Leia at nineteen and spent decades with the role attached to everything she did, which she wrote about with considerable wit.

She was one of the most in-demand script doctors in Hollywood through the 1990s, working uncredited on Hook, Sister Act and several Star Wars prequels, which was a substantial and largely invisible career.

Postcards from the Edge, which she wrote as a novel and adapted, is autobiographical about addiction and her mother Debbie Reynolds. She was open about bipolar disorder throughout and died in 2016.
