Aliens gives him Hudson, whose panic is the film’s comic relief and whose game over line entered the language. Apollo 13, Tombstone and Twister filled out a career of dependable, likeable presence.
One False Move and A Simple Plan show a much darker capacity, and he directed Frailty, a genuinely disturbing film about a father who believes God has instructed him to kill.
He was in the crowd at a Kennedy motorcade as a child, photographed by chance, and died in 2017 following surgery.
