Ava Gardner was nominated for Mogambo and worked steadily from the 1940s through the 1970s, in The Killers, The Barefoot Contessa and The Night of the Iguana.
The Killers is the noir debut, and Show Boat and Bhowani Junction show the range the studio system rarely allowed her.
She was married to Mickey Rooney, Artie Shaw and Frank Sinatra, which occupied more press than the work, and moved to Spain and then London permanently. Earthquake gave her a late disaster-cycle role.
