Albert Dekker played the title role in Dr. Cyclops, an early Technicolor science fiction film, and became a fixture as a screen heavy.
Kiss Me Deadly gives him the villain and the film’s apocalyptic ending, and The Killers and The Wild Bunch fill out the noir and western work.
He served a term in the California State Assembly, was blacklisted after criticising Joseph McCarthy publicly, and died in 1968 in circumstances that were widely reported and never satisfactorily explained.
