Writer: Taika Waititi

Taika Waititi won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit, adapting Christine Leunens’s novel and adding an imaginary Hitler he plays himself, which is a decision that should not work.

His New Zealand films, Boy, Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in the Shadows, run on deadpan delivery and awkward pauses, with the comedy sitting directly on top of grief instead of beside it.

He co-wrote Thor: Ragnarok and Love and Thunder, and the criticism of the latter is that the comic register overrode the material, which the earlier work controls much better.
