Sam Raimi co-wrote the Evil Dead films with Scott Spiegel and Ivan Raimi, and the scripts are unusual in being written around camera movement. The material assumes a mobile, aggressive camera and does not work staged conventionally.

Evil Dead II is effectively a remake of the first film as a comedy, with the same events played for slapstick, a strange thing to do to your own work and which produced the better picture.

He also wrote A Simple Plan and Darkman, and the Spider-Man films’ emphasis on responsibility as a burden instead of a gift comes from his drafts.
