Writer: Richard Price

Richard Price is a novelist first, with Clockers and Lush Life, and his screenwriting carries the same reportorial method: he spends extended time with police and in the neighbourhoods he writes about before putting anything on the page.

His scripts include The Color of Money, Sea of Love, Ransom and Shaft, and he wrote for The Wire, where the approach fit exactly.

He co-created The Night Of, which gave the same patient procedural treatment to a single case across eight hours.
