Writer: Paddy Chayefsky

Paddy Chayefsky won three Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay, for Marty, The Hospital and Network, which no other writer has done.

Network was received in 1976 as broad satire about a television industry that would put a ranting anchor on air for ratings. It is now routinely described as documentary, which is a fate its author would probably have found unsurprising.

He began in live television drama, where Marty originated, and his dialogue runs long by film standards because he trusted actors to sustain a speech.
