Poltergeist remains the credit that matters. Its innovation was placing a haunting in a brand-new house instead of an old one, which removed every Gothic convention the genre relied on and made the horror specifically contemporary.
He has worked extensively in television since, and the disputed direction of Poltergeist has meant the writing contribution is discussed less than it should be.
