John Logan wrote Gladiator, The Aviator, Hugo, Skyfall and Spectre, and has been nominated for three Academy Awards without winning.
Skyfall is his best film work, built on the relationship between Bond and M as the actual subject, which is closer to a play than to a spy film and is why it plays differently from the rest of the series.
He created Penny Dreadful for television and wrote the play Red about Mark Rothko, which won the Tony. The theatrical instinct for a confined confrontation runs through all of it.
