Gerard Brach co-wrote Repulsion, Cul-de-sac, The Tenant, Tess, Pirates, Frantic and Bitter Moon with Roman Polanski across four decades, and also wrote for Jean-Jacques Annaud, including The Name of the Rose and Quest for Fire.

He was reportedly agoraphobic and worked almost entirely from his apartment, which several critics have connected to the enclosed and hostile interiors that run through the Polanski collaborations.

Quest for Fire is the outlier, a prehistoric film with no comprehensible dialogue at all, and it works.
