Christopher Wood wrote The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker, the two Bond films that pushed the series furthest into spectacle, with a supertanker swallowing submarines and a laser battle in orbit.
He also wrote the novelisations of both under the title James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me, since Fleming’s contract permitted the title only. Under the name Timothy Lea he wrote the Confessions series of British sex comedies, which sold enormously.
The two halves of that career are difficult to reconcile and he was open about the commercial motives behind both.
