Bruce Feirstein wrote or co-wrote GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough, the three films that carried Bond from the end of the Cold War into the media age.
GoldenEye is the sharpest of them. It puts the accusation directly into the film, with M calling Bond a sexist misogynist dinosaur, and the franchise’s willingness to interrogate itself begins there.
He came from satire, having written Real Men Don’t Eat Quiche, which sold in the millions, and the comic instinct shows in Tomorrow Never Dies, where the villain is a media baron manufacturing a war for ratings.
