Genre: parody

Films that work by knowing another film, or an entire genre, better than the audience does. Parody is harder than it looks because it needs the affection and the accuracy both: get the conventions wrong and nothing lands. The reviews here look at the joke rate, the willingness to commit to a bit past the point of comfort, and the reason the best parodies survive their targets. A spoof that only mocks ages badly, and one that loves what it mocks does not.
