Tony Scott, Ridley’s younger brother, came from the same British advertising background and developed an even more aggressive visual style: heavy filtration, smoke, backlight through blinds, and later a stuttering step-printed technique that made whole films feel overheated.
Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop II, True Romance, Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State and Man on Fire are the run. True Romance, written by Tarantino, is the one critics concede, and Crimson Tide is the tightest as pure construction.
He worked repeatedly with Denzel Washington across five films. He died in 2012.
