Sam Fell co-directed Flushed Away at Aardman, the studio’s first computer-animated feature, and then ParaNorman at Laika, returning to stop motion.

ParaNorman is the achievement. A children’s film about a boy who sees the dead, it turns out to be about a witch trial and mob cruelty, and its resolution requires the protagonist to have sympathy for someone terrifying instead of defeating them.

He later directed Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, returning to Aardman for a sequel more than twenty years after the original.
