Rebel Without a Cause (1955)
Nicholas Ray's 1955 James Dean defining role. Chickie run, planetarium, foundation of every teen film since.
Nicholas Ray directed Rebel Without a Cause, In a Lonely Place and Johnny Guitar, and the French critics of Cahiers du Cinéma treated him as a central figure of American cinema long before American critics did. He lost an eye and struggled with addiction, and his last film was made collaboratively with students while he was dying.
