Ernst Lubitsch directed Trouble in Paradise, Ninotchka and The Shop Around the Corner, and the phrase the Lubitsch touch was coined for a method of implying everything and showing nothing, usually involving a closed door. He came from German silent cinema and became one of Hollywood’s most admired directors among other directors.
