Bennett Miller has directed three narrative features in fifteen years, Capote, Moneyball and Foxcatcher, and was nominated for Best Director for two of them. The pace is a choice and the films show the time.

All three are true stories held at a cold distance, with the camera observing instead of advocating. Foxcatcher refuses to explain John du Pont, which several critics wanted and which would have made a lesser film.

Moneyball is the accessible one, a sports film about a spreadsheet argument, and it works because Miller treats the statistical dispute as genuinely dramatic.
