Yuval Noah Harari is an Israeli historian and author, born in 1976 in Kiryat Ata, Israel. He studied history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and earned his doctorate at the University of Oxford, specializing in medieval and military history before turning his attention to sweeping questions about the human species. He is a professor of history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Harari achieved worldwide fame with Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, first published in Hebrew in 2011 and in English in 2014. The book traces the history of the human species from the emergence of Homo sapiens through the cognitive, agricultural, and scientific revolutions, and became an international bestseller praised, and sometimes debated, for its bold synthesis across disciplines.
He followed it with Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow, which speculates about the future of humanity in an age of biotechnology and artificial intelligence, and 21 Lessons for the 21st Century, addressing contemporary challenges. His more recent work has focused on information networks and the implications of artificial intelligence.
Harari's accessible, big-picture approach to history and his provocative ideas about technology, consciousness, and the future have made him one of the most widely read public intellectuals in the world. His books have sold tens of millions of copies and have been translated into dozens of languages.
