Spartacus (1960)
Stanley Kubrick's 1960 Roman epic. Kirk Douglas as the slave revolt leader.
Tony Curtis was nominated for Best Actor for The Defiant Ones, chained to Sidney Poitier for the length of the film, and he insisted on shared billing with Poitier at a time when that was contested.
Some Like It Hot required him to play a man impersonating a woman impersonating Cary Grant, which is a triple layer that few comic actors could sustain. Sweet Smell of Success is the harder performance, playing a press agent of complete moral vacancy.
