Terry Jones directed Life of Brian, The Meaning of Life and co-directed Holy Grail, which makes him the Python most responsible for how the films look.
He played most of the group’s women, including Brian’s mother, and the crucifixion sequence is his staging.
He was a genuine medieval scholar, publishing well-regarded books on Chaucer and on Richard II, and presented history documentaries for the BBC. He was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia in 2015 and died in 2020.
