Actor: Ted Levine

Ted Levine played Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs, and the performance is genuinely disturbing partly because it is played quietly and with a specific damaged interiority.

He then spent decades in roles of understated authority, in Heat, American Gangster and Shutter Island, and had a long television lead in Monk as the captain.

He came from Steppenwolf in Chicago, and has been notably reluctant to discuss the Lambs role in interviews.
