Michael Nyqvist played Mikael Blomkvist across the Swedish Millennium trilogy opposite Noomi Rapace, and the partnership is the reason those films work.

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol and John Wick gave him American villain roles, the latter playing a crime boss whose exasperation with his own son is the film’s best comedy. He was Swedish, trained in Stockholm, and died in 2017 at fifty-six.
