Michael Ironside broke through in Scanners, playing the villain in a film best remembered for an exploding head, and spent decades afterward as a dependable screen threat.
Total Recall gives him Richter, and Starship Troopers gives him Rasczak, whose classroom scenes carry the film’s satire more directly than anything else in it.
He voices Sam Fisher in the Splinter Cell games, which is his most widely encountered work, and survived cancer twice early in his career.
