Actor: Melinda Dillon

Melinda Dillon was nominated twice, for Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Absence of Malice, the first playing a mother whose child is taken and whose distress is the film’s emotional anchor. A Christmas Story gave her the mother, and she originated a role in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf on Broadway.
