Katy Jurado was the first Mexican actress nominated for an Academy Award, for Broken Lance, and High Noon gave her a former lover of the marshal whose judgment of the town is sharper than anyone else’s. She won a Golden Globe and had a substantial Mexican film career alongside the American one.
