Julie Andrews won Best Actor in a Leading Role for Mary Poppins, her first film, after being passed over for the film version of My Fair Lady, which she had originated on stage. Audrey Hepburn was cast instead and dubbed.
The Sound of Music followed. A 1997 throat operation intended to remove nodules permanently damaged her singing voice, and she has worked in speaking and voice roles since, including the Shrek and Princess Diaries films.
