Jon Voight was nominated for Midnight Cowboy, playing a naive Texan hustler in New York, and won Best Actor for Coming Home as a paralysed Vietnam veteran.
Deliverance gives him the group’s most capable member, and the film’s horror is largely conveyed through his face.
Heat and Mission: Impossible fill out the later work. His politics moved sharply rightward from the 2000s and his public statements have made him a divisive figure. Angelina Jolie is his daughter.
