The African Queen (1951)
John Huston's 1951 WWI East Africa adventure. Bogart and Hepburn down a river to torpedo a German gunboat.
John Huston’s acting career ran alongside a much larger directing one, and Chinatown gives him Noah Cross, whose scene about how a man will do anything if the circumstances change is the film’s clearest statement of its own argument.
The Cardinal brought him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
He also appears in his own The Treasure of the Sierra Madre briefly, and in Battle for the Planet of the Apes and Chinatown he was cast specifically for a presence that carried authority without effort.
