Jack Hawkins was for a period the most popular British film star, playing officers and officials in The Bridge on the River Kwai, Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia and The League of Gentlemen.
His larynx was removed in 1966 due to cancer, and he continued acting with his voice dubbed by other actors, which is an unusual and difficult arrangement.
Zulu gives him a missionary, and he worked until his death in 1973.
