Hoyt Axton played the inventor father in Gremlins, and he was primarily a country songwriter who wrote Joy to the World and The Pusher. His mother co-wrote Heartbreak Hotel. He appeared in The Black Stallion and Heart Like a Wheel and worked steadily in supporting roles.
