Graham Chapman played King Arthur in Holy Grail and Brian in Life of Brian, the two lead roles, and the group’s method was to give him the straight parts because he could hold a film together while the others were being absurd.
He qualified as a doctor before comedy. He was an alcoholic during the Holy Grail shoot, which he later addressed, and was one of the first British public figures to come out as gay. He died in 1989.
