Young Frankenstein is one of the great American comedies and the highest achievement in Mel Brooks's filmography. Mel Brooks directed and cowrote the screenplay with Gene Wilder.

Gene Wilder was nominated for The Producers and co-wrote Young Frankenstein with Mel Brooks, earning a screenplay nomination. Willy Wonka gives him an entrance built on a fake limp and a somersault, which he insisted on so the audience would never be sure whether he was lying. He wrote novels and a memoir and largely retired after his wife Gilda Radner’s death.
