Elsa Lanchester played both Mary Shelley and the Bride in Bride of Frankenstein, appearing in the film’s prologue and then in about four minutes at the end, and the hiss she gives the creature was based on swans she had watched in a park. She was married to Charles Laughton and was nominated twice.
