Dick Van Dyke played Bert in Mary Poppins with an accent that has become the standard example of a bad screen Cockney, which he has apologised for repeatedly and with good humour. He also plays the elderly Mr Dawes under prosthetics in the same film. The Dick Van Dyke Show won him three Emmys.
