Claire Trevor won Best Supporting Actress for Key Largo, playing an alcoholic singer forced to perform for a drink, and the scene is genuinely uncomfortable. Stagecoach gave her the prostitute run out of town in the opening reel, whose dignity the film restores over its length. She was nominated three times and worked from the early 1930s onward.
