David Koepp and Michael Crichton adapted Crichton's 1990 novel. The film made approximately one billion dollars worldwide on a sixty-three million dollar budget.

BD Wong played Doctor Henry Wu in Jurassic Park and returned across the Jurassic World films, making him one of very few performers to bridge both series. He won a Tony for M Butterfly, and Law and Order: SVU and Mr Robot gave him long television runs. He has been an advocate for Asian American representation.
