Karen Gillan played Amy Pond across three series of Doctor Who, which made her famous in Britain before any film work.

Nebula across the Guardians and Avengers films required her to shave her head and spend hours in prosthetics, and the character develops considerably more than a supporting antagonist usually does.

Jumanji gave her a comic register playing an avatar controlled by a teenage girl, and she has written and directed a feature, The Party’s Just Beginning, set in her home town.
